Anastomotic Leak with Emergency Surgical Repair - Medical Illustration, Human Anatomy Drawing

This exhibit begins with an anterior view of the abdomen describing the pre-operative condition. The perforation at the anastomosis site, bile leakage, abscess are illustrated and labeled. The exhibit depicts multiple steps of the surgery based on the operative report provided. These steps include reopening the abdominal incision, evacuation of pelvic abscess, extension of the incision superiorly and transection of the small bowel proximal to the anastomosis and the colon distal (21.5 cm of ileum and colon removed), anastomosis of the small bowel to the colon, and creation of a protective/loop ileostomy proximal to the new anastomosis.
