تصوّر هذه الرسوم المتحركة الطبية ثلاثية الأبعاد بدء التخثر الوريدي العميق من خلال تكوَن جلطة دموية بوريد الساق. حينما تتدفق الخلايا الدموية الحمراء بالوريد، تتجمع الخلايا التي تتحرك ببطء وغيرها من عناصر الدم بداخل الصمامات الوريدة مما يؤدي إلى إعاقة تدفق الدم داخل الوريد. وعندما يؤدي التخثر إلى إتلاف وريقة الصمام فإن ذلك يسمى صِمة، وهي تتحرك تجاه القلب والرئتين. ويوضَح الجزء الأخير من الرسم المتحرك توطن الصِمة بداخل أنسجة الرئتين مما يؤدي لحدوث انصمام رئوي من المحتمل أن يكون مهددًا للحياة.
