Lumbar Disc Injury with Surgical Repair - Medical Illustration, Human Anatomy Drawing
This exhibit begins with one sagittal (side cut-away) view of the lumbar spine illustrating the pre-operative condition. This image clearly reveals the disc extrusion at the L4-5 level with compression of the right L5 nerve root. Next, one posterior view of the lower body of a male figure is created to illustrate the injuries as a result of this disc extrusion. The lumbar spine, nerve roots and various nerves coursing down into the legs are shown transparently beneath the skin. A bright red flash is shown over the L4-5 level representing the site of injury and this red color is shown coursing out across the lower back, buttock and down into the right leg representing the pain, numbness and tingling. Finally, two steps of the hemilaminectomy and discectomy procedure are illustrated in graphic detail.

What attorneys say about MLA and The Doe Report:
"Medical Legal Art wins our firm's highest accolades for professionalism and exhibit quality. In fact, many of the doctors I work with request color copies of your outstanding artwork to show to patients during the informed consent process."

"We got a defense verdict yesterday! Your exhibit was extremely helpful in showing the jury how unlikely it is to damage all four of the nerve branches which control the sense of taste."

"It is my experience that it's much more effective to show a jury what happened than simply to tell a jury what happened. In this day and age where people are used to getting information visually, through television and other visual media, I would be at a disadvantage using only words.

I teach a Litigation Process class at the University of Baltimore Law Schooland use [Medical Legal Art's] animation in my class. Students always saythat they never really understood what happened to [to my client] until theysaw the animation.

Animations are powerful communication tools that should be used wheneverpossible to persuade juries."

Most importantly, your prompt service and attention upon even short notice has been tremendous. I can certainly say that the medical illustrations prepared by Medical Legal Art have assisted us in bringing cases to a successful resolution."
