Lumbar Discogram with L4-5 Herniated Disc Diagnosis - Medical Illustration, Human Anatomy Drawing

This medical illustration series depicts a herniated lumbar disc and a discogram diagnostic procedure to evaluate the level of injury. The drawings show the following steps: 1. Discography needles are placed into intervertebral discs (disks) in the lumbar spine; 2. A needle is entered into the nucleus pulposus of the L4-5 intervertebral disc; 3. Contrast material is injected to recreate spinal nerve impingement pain. The final image shows a discogram displaying the position of the nerves, identifying the level of injury.
