This exhibit begins with one sagittal (side cut-away) view of the abdomen and pelvis of a male figure illustrating the hernia of the anterior abdominal wall approximately 3 to 4 cm above the umbilicus. It is clear that loops of small bowel have been forced into the layers of the anterior abdominal wall as this patient struggled to void his bladder and bowels following the development of cauda equina syndrome. Also, the key steps of the ventral hernia repair procedure are illustrated step by step. These images include the open abdominal incision, the resection of the hernia sac and the reinforcement of the abdominal wall with Marlex mesh. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
