This medical exhibit begins with one cross sectional view of the eye illustrating normal anatomy, labeling the cornea, lens and retina and showing the function of the cornea in normal vision. A ray of light is shown entering the eye and is focused by the cornea, and then further by the lens to arrive on the retina at a specific spot. It illustrates that the function of the retina is focusing light in normal vision. A second cut-away view of the eye illustrates the application of Proparacaine drops. A drop of liquid placed onto the surface of the cornea bathes the cornea. A third cut-away view of the eye illustrates the subsequent condition featuring a clouding and opacification of the cornea as a result of the overuse of Proparacaine. Again the light enters the eye but the cornea is no longer effectively focusing the light and it strikes the retina in a broad area resulting in blurring and clouding of vision.
