This stock medical exhibit describes an intra-operative injury to the abdominal aorta. It begins with a view of a male patient lying on his side in the operating room. The remaining images show the operative (lateral) view of the abdomen, with the kidneys, spine, and aorta visible beneath the skin. In the first of these images, a trocar is shown piercing the aorta. The second view shows the trocar in position and the aortic tear. The third view shows the abdomen insufflated, and the resulting pressure keeps the blood in the retroperitoneal space. The final image hows the abdominal pressure released with an abdominal incision, allowing the blood to begin to fill the abdomen.
