This exhibit features a sagittal (cut-away from side) orientation view of the spine with a detailed enlargement of the L1 region. In the detail we can appreciate an L1 spinal burst fracture with retropulsion of bone fragments posteriorly into the spinal canal and compression of the conus region of the spinal cord. Next to these images appears a single anterior overview of the bones and nerves of the female pelvis illustrating damages to specific nerves secondary to the fractures at L1.
