Bowel Injury and Eventual Perforation - Medical Illustration, Human Anatomy Drawing

This medical exhibit depicts injuries resulting in a perforated colon. The first image provides an orientation view of the large intestine and a cross sectional view of the sigmoid colon. The layers of the colon are highlighted and labeled to identify a normal view. The second illustration shows a cross section that includes an injury to the serosal layer. The third illustration shows how the initial divot has grown to encompass the submucosal layer. The final illustration depicts the subsequent perforation and fecal spillage as the divot has grown to encompass all three layers.
